We paid $75 per night including breakfast for the second booking (a little over $100/night for the first booking), excellent value.

The bus stop number 50 is right outside hotel that takes you to the nightingale castle (Nijo Castle). And Gion and old town are walking distance from both end of market and end of Main Shijo-Dori street.

Kyoto sites are generally pretty spread out, but this hotel was nicely located for walks to Nijo Castle, The Imperial Palace, Nishiki Market and along Kamo River to the Shimogamo Shrine (all of which were recommended by Front Desk staff). It was also very close (<5 mins) to a couple of subway lines, one of which I took from Kyoto Station to the hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
